Volunteers are the Heart of Community

06/06/2020

Volunteering is not just a fulfilling experience - it is a chance for me to give back to the community that has given so much to me over the years.

Each year, the  Fairview Community Association hosts a Fairview Family Day celebration.  Thanks to generous donations & sponsorship from local businesses, this event is entirely free for residents to attend. There is a BBQ, bouncy castles and an outdoor movie at dusk complete with fireworks.  Last year over 800 people attended and the numbers keep growing!

In December, we also host the annual tree lighting at Titus Park.  Everyone meets at Freeman's in Fairview for a candlelit walk to the park.  Once again, thanks to donations from sponsors, there are turkey giveaways, caroling, hot chocolate &snacks and of course a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Clause ~ what a wonderful way to kick off the holidays!

I have also spent countless volunteer hours on various community boards and fundraising projects including:

  • Past Chair Clayton Park Jr. High SAC (School Advisory Council).
  • Past and current Member of Halifax High School SAC (School Advisory Council).

  • Member of Board of Directors & Secretary of Fairview Community Association.

  • Founding Member of Proposed Fairview Business Improvement District.

  • Annual volunteer for Crime Stoppers "Battle of  The Wits" fundraiser.

  • Annual volunteer for "Tinsel the Talking Christmas Tree'. To date this project has raised over $49,000 in food and monetary donations for local food bank to help families in need.

  • Parent volunteer for both Duc D'Anville and Clayton Park Jr. High.

  • Past annual volunteer for the well known "Weir Rockin" concert.

  • Member of the Fairview Historic Society.
